National Bed Month 2022

This year’s theme focuses on finding the perfect bed for your personal needs and ensuring a healthier lifestyle, with #rightsideofthebed being the hashtag to use for expert bed advice!

Here at Aspire, we understand that maintaining a healthy and regular sleep routine may seem unrealistic for many people due to busy work schedules or hectic family life, however, it is essential to make small efforts in ensuring a quality night’s sleep for both your mental and physical health.

The charity, Mind, reports that there is a clear linking cycle between stress and a lack of sleep. This usually starts with thoughts and feelings of worry or stress that leads to a lack of sleep, tiredness, difficulty coping with daily life and low self-esteem - and so this vicious cycle continues.

This National Bed Month we want to discuss the small steps to take to avoid sleep-related stress.

How to get more sleep

Here are some simple steps to include in your daily life this march to improve your sleep quality and banish those restless nights:

Investing in quality

First and foremost - let’s talk beds! A quality bed frame and supportive mattress can be the number one solution to sleep disruption, when you invest in quality you are guaranteed the ultimate support as you sleep.

But what makes a quality bed? A quality bed is usually an investment piece, as you are paying the price for high-quality materials and products made by sleep experts. This also means that the specific bed or mattress that you have chosen has been built to your specific needs as we don’t all sleep in the way or experience the same issues. Head over to our guide to find the perfect bed for you.

Choosing colour schemes that create a calming environment

Once you have picked out your dream bed, it’s time to look at interior design choices. A calming colour palette such as muted blues and pinks or even a neutral palette helps to create a peaceful ambience and set the scene for relaxation.

• Enhance your bedroom environment

Before you hop into bed, make sure that the temperature and lighting are just right. 20 degrees celsius has been reported as the most comfortable temperature to sleep in - however, this does depend on the individual. Also, blackout blinds are your new best friend when it comes to drifting off with ease!

• Regular exercise

Taking part in regular exercise is said to enhance your sleep and reduce the risk of sleep disorders by reducing the time it takes to usually fall asleep. However, be careful not to work out too late as this could cause alertness in the body.

• No caffeine or alcohol

Late night coffees or alcoholic beverages are a no-go when it comes to healthy sleep routines. When caffeine is consumed later in the day, your nervous system becomes too stimulated and you may find it difficult to sleep. Whereas alcohol can negatively affect your sleep hormones and increase the chances of snoring and even sleep apnea!
