Want to know how to sleep better? Get involved this World Sleep Day

Creating sleep awareness is at the heart of who we are and the meaning behind each one of our creations. World Sleep Day 2022 UK is considered one of the most crucial calendar dates for any snooze enthusiasts, but what is the meaning behind it?

World Sleep Day 2022 Theme

This year’s theme is centred around three points; Quality Sleep, Sound Mind and a Happy World. But what does it all mean? I hear you ask. This theme allows sleep experts across the globe and the World Sleep Day Committee to discuss the major linking factors between sleep quality and mental and physical wellbeing.

Why is sleep so important?

A healthy mind and body simply cannot function on a low amount of sleep, so consider your quality of sleep as the quality of gas that you would feed an engine. As a general rule, 8 hours of sleep is the goal for a healthy bedtime routine as a good amount of sleep allows the body to reset, boost the immune system and ward off harmful diseases such as heart disease and diabetes by lowering blood pressure levels.

So for all the workaholics and night owls questioning ‘is it ok to sleep 5 hours? - we’re sorry but the answer is a definite no…

The perfect amount of sleep

Despite drifting off into the clouds for a substantial amount of time, many of us wake up questioning ‘why do I still feel tired after eight hours of sleep?’, the simplest of reasons for this is that everyone is different. Whilst 8 hours of sleep is sufficient for the majority of people, individuals may not experience the same benefits and may require an extra hour or two to feel fully refreshed!

There are also other factors that may be causing sleep-related issues, including caffeine or alcohol intake or even underlying health issues that need to be addressed to improve your overall quality of life.
