Like anything, mattresses have a timeframe in which they perform how they should and provide you with the support and comfort you need as you sleep. According to the Sleep Foundation, you should look to replace your mattress every 6-8 years, however mattresses can last longer than this, especially if it’s a quality mattress and is cared for in that time. A high quality mattress can actually last up to ten years if properly cared for during its lifetime.
However there are certainly a few tell tale signs that it may be time to replace your mattress such as visible wear and tear, sunken in areas and if you’re constantly waking up with aches and pains.
First of all, it’s always a good idea to check the care label for your particular mattress to ensure you don’t use any chemicals on it that you shouldn’t. Next up, strip your mattress and gently vacuum its surface. Then make sure to air your mattress with the bedroom window open for a few hours to let the fabric breathe, before remaking your bed.
If there are any stains that you need to remove, then once again make sure you check the care instructions. Some mattresses have removable covers that can be machine washed, but others don’t. You want to avoid the possibility of shrinking your cover so it no longer fits over the mattress.
With spills, it’s also important to try and clean them as soon as possible, so as to prevent it from staining the mattress cover or the mattress itself. When using any cleaning solutions, make sure to test on a small part of the stain first to ensure it won’t damage the mattress too.
There are plenty of great mattress options if you suffer from a bad back. From firm and supportive orthopaedic mattresses and cushioning, contour hugging memory foam options to hybrid mattresses that provide an innovative combination of spring and memory foam technology.
However the right mattress for you will come down to a number of factors, from your preferred sleeping position to your body weight. Generally you should be looking at a medium-firm to extra firm mattress if you suffer from back pain, but it’s important to research the various mattress types available and how each one suits different sleeping styles.
Mattress toppers provide your mattress with an extra cushioning layer to provide a comfortable and supportive sleep environment. They can give existing mattresses a new lease of life when sold separately and some mattresses include them as standard, such as our luxurious Pillowtop range, which features hand tufted, natural fillings that provide sumptuous support.

- Jemma AzzopardiDecided to buy after reading the reviews and I have to say I agree with them. It's a good looking bed, decent quality but a bit time consuming to build. It took 2 of us about 3 hours.
