When do clocks change 2022 and how to sleep well despite the changes!

What is daylight saving time?

Let’s step back in time when a man named William Willet, proposed the idea in 1916 of the clocks going forward in spring and going backwards during winter so that we could reap the benefits of longer days. Such benefits included; more natural exposure to vitamin D and the ability to spend more time outdoors. Without this system, William deemed life to be ‘wasting daylight’.

However, despite his good intentions, many people have raised their concerns with the daylight saving concept for various reasons.

What is the biggest problem with daylight saving time?

That dreaded time of the year is almost here when we lose a precious hour of sleep, but despite this tragedy, there are many benefits of the clocks changing…

Here’s a brief history lesson to understand why daylight saving time is actually working in your favour.

The obvious complaint is that we technically lose one hour of sleep if your Monday morning alarm is set to the same time as usual. Although, there are bigger issues when it comes to the changing of clocks including the disruptions of our internal clock which retrospectively causes sleep problems such as disruptive nights or sleep apnea.

Another study also reported that the rate of road accidents increases after daylight saving changes due to a lack of sleep for night owls and cluster headaches and fuzzy minds as a result of this change.

When do clocks change 2022?

This year the clocks will change on the 27th March at 1am when we will transition to British Summer Time (BST). Not to fear - there are no more changes until the 30th October 2022!
